Recently YouTube announced that it would deactivate the provision of comments in all video content that is suitable for kids below the age of 18 years. This was after there were complaints from advertising agencies and they had stopped advertising at the channel, due to predatory comments in the comments section of the YouTube videos. Initially, comments were disabled only in specific sections but now it has announced that it would disable all comments in the videos for minors.
During the year of 2017 it was reported that there were people leaving explicit comments on Youtube videos, these comments also included sexual comments. Understanding the urgency and criticality of the situation, YouTube promised to clean the site. However, earlier this year companies like AT&T, Nestle, and Hasbro stopped advertising due to similar activities found in their advertisements.
Hence, you tube recently announced that videos that would have content for small children would have the comments section completely disabled. These videos would be, videos by parents, short films, by established YouTube stars. This would be done by a set of high-end algorithms to detect the content. The right to comment on videos would be given to selected few content editors, like family content editors and trusted YouTube stars.
Additionally, YouTube has removed many channels that might be troublesome to the younger age group. In a bid to keep both the segments separate the company has another app called YouTube kids which has content suitable for kids.
