Huawei is one of the largest telecommunications equipment and service provider across the globe, recently it surpassed Apple and secured the position of the second largest smartphone manufacturer.
US prosecutor filed a host of criminal charges against the Chinese telecom giant Huawei, which the company has denied. The chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, was arrested in Canada last month, the same was also denied by Huawei officials. It has been stated that the charges filed for US bank fraud is false, obstruction of justice and theft of technology. This is expected to increase the current tension between China and the U.S..
A Huawei official stated that “disappointed to learn of the charges brought against the company today". It said it didn't commit "any of the asserted violations" and that it "is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms Meng".The statement said the allegations of stealing trade secrets were the subject of a settled civil suit, in which a jury found "neither damages nor wilful and malicious conduct".
The prosecution, announced on Monday, that Huawei misled the US and a global bank about its relationship with two subsidiaries, Huawei Device USA and Skycom Tech, to do business with Iran.
The US President Donald Trump's administration has reinstated all authorizations on Iran and recently imposed even stricter measures which in turn has affected oil exports, shipping and banking industry.
Another charge suggests that Huawei stole technology from telecom company, T-Mobile used for testing of durability in smartphones at the same time obstructing justice. However, as per Huawei spokesman this dispute has been settled in 2014.
However, there is concern that Chinese government could use Huawei’s technology to expand its spying ability. To this in spite of confirmation from the agency that there is no government control over the same. As a result of this, Ms Meng, daughter of founder of Huawei was arrested, leading to disorder in the country. Though she was released after 24 hours, but she been ordered to wear an electronic ankle tag.
