Boeing caused a lot of waves in the international business during this year, but currently it is in a dangerous position, after one of its jet crashed and killed everyone on board. This concern is more due to the fact that this is second such deadly crash in the last six months.
On Sunday morning, the Ethiopian Airlines crashed just after some time of take-off, and 157 people on board died. The previous incident was of Lion Air flight that went down in late October, killing all 189 people on board.
Both the Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air flights were brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes. And both crashed minutes into flight. Though the reasons are still being investigated and the similar pattern of incidents can be a coincidence. However, if there is a similarity than the company needs to modify the way 737 MAX 8 crew are trained. This might also lead to temporary halting of the new planes or halt deliveries. The jet 2-year old 737 MAX 8 model is a bestsellers, with contributing to sales by 72%. The flight time was only of 1400 hours before it crashed.
In a statement Boeing mentioned that there were deeply saddened by the incident and is ready to give all the technical assistance requested by the US National Transportation Safety board team.
The previous crash in the month of October was due to faulty data that suggested the nose was tilted higher. The new system for safety that was installed in the planes automatically pull the plane’s nose down if the data suggest risk.
Business wise the Boeing had its best year ever in 2018, and is hoping to make it better this years with company sales increase of USD 100 billion for the first time in the 102 year history.
